The Self-Measurement Principle: A Design Principle for Large-scale, Long-lived, and Highly Reliable Concurrent Systems

چکیده
A good design, development, and maintenance methodology for concurrent systems must be based on a good recognition and/or understanding of the intrinsic characteristics of concurrent systems. Measuring and monitoring the behavior of a complex concurrent system is an indispensable way to achieve the reliability of the system. Based on recognition and/or understanding of the wholeness principle of concurrent systems and the uncertainty principle in measuring and monitoring concurrent systems, this paper proposes a new design principle, named the “self-measurement principle,” for large-scale, long-lived, and highly reliable concurrent systems. The self-measurement principle requires that a large-scale, long-lived, and highly reliable concurrent system should be constructed by some function components and some (maybe only one) permanent selfmeasurement components that act concurrently with the function components, measure and monitor the system itself according to some requirements, and pass run-time information about the system’s behavior to the outside world of the system.

Large-scale and highly reliable concurrent systems are more and more required and it is indispensable for them to keep on measuring and monitoring an order to ensure their reliability. Some systematic method for developing self-measurement concurrent systems has been needed. Self-measurement programs may be dificult to be developed and maintained in conventional environment for development. Thi...
متن کاملMultiple vacation policy for MX/Hk/1 queue with un-reliable server
This paper studies the operating characteristics of an MX/Hk/1 queueing system under multiple vacation policy. It is assumed that the server goes for vacation as soon as the system becomes empty. When he returns from a vacation and there is one or more customers waiting in the queue, he serves these customers until the system becomes empty again, otherwise goes for another vacation. The brea...
متن کاملComparison of entropy generation minimization principle and entransy theory in optimal design of thermal systems
In this study, the relationship among the concepts of entropy generation rate, entransy theory, and generalized thermal resistance to the optimal design of thermal systems is discussed. The equations of entropy and entransy rates are compared and their implications for optimization of conductive heat transfer are analyzed. The theoretical analyses show that based on entropy generation minimizat...

Introduction: self-regulation is an important construct in motivation through which the students regulate their learning meta-cognition. Self-regulation is one of the most important predictive factors of academic achievement. Therefore evaluating academic self-regulation in learners is critical. The aim of this study was to develop validity and to determine the factors structure a self-regulati...
